Important things to know about Estimating Courses
Building and construction estimating courses introduce the different types of building cost estimation from the conceptual designs phase through the detailed designs phase of a construction project.
Let us find out how these Estimating Courses work, get to know the profile of those who graduate in the area, and see where to study to pursue this career!
The Civil Construction sector is one of the most dynamic and one of the areas that has grown the most in recent years.
Despite the fluctuations in the economy, the demand for specialized professionals is still growing and it is possible to enter the labor market by taking Estimating Courses.
About the Building Estimating Courses:
There are two types of Building Estimating Courses for those who want to work in Civil Construction.
In some colleges, the student takes some semesters with subjects common to both qualifications and then chooses one of them.
However, in most cases, the student already chooses his qualification at the time of registration, and the college offers two different courses: Building Construction and Roads.
See how each of these qualifications of the Civil Construction course works.
Technologist in Civil Construction – Construction of Buildings:
The objective of this course is to train professionals capable of planning, managing, and executing building works. They monitor and supervise the development of activities in all stages of construction, from planning the schedule to the management of construction waste.
The course starts with basic subjects in the areas of Physics, Statistics, Geometry, Technical Design, Chemistry, and General Mechanics.
The specific disciplines of the profession involve Topography, Geology, Hydraulics, Materials, Soil, etc.
The building construction technologist has the responsibility to manage a construction site with a view to optimizing available resources, respecting, conserving the environment, and ensuring safety. Therefore, in addition to knowledge about structures, material resistance, or hydraulic and electrical installations, the course presents disciplines more focused on management, such as:
– Cost Management
– Supply Management
– Legislation
– Construction Planning
– Constructive Processes
– Safety
In addition to planning, construction works for buildings, this technologist can act in the restoration and maintenance of these buildings. Among its main activities, we can mention:
– Supervise and monitor the physical and financial construction schedule.
– Develop the basic project of the construction site.
– Promote the necessary safety in construction processes.
– Conduct technical-economic feasibility studies.
– Evaluate the performance of the evolution of the work.
– Acting in the quality control of the materials used.
As the name already indicates, the focus of these estimating courses in the construction of land routes. The road technologist works in the planning and execution of road works, such as, for example, the implementation and maintenance of roads.
The curriculum for the qualification in Roads is similar to that of Building Construction with regard to the basic disciplines (Calculation, Geometry, Physics, Drawing, etc.). Also, the training disciplines (Geology, Strength of Materials, Structures, Construction Materials, among others) that form the basis for specific subjects.
