How to Prepare for Moving Day

It’s a headache to prepare for moving day because there’s so much that goes into it.

You are literally packing up your life. You are taking your home and building it somewhere else now.

It’s big.

But it doesn’t have to be as difficult as you think.

Better Ways to Prepare for Moving Day

While you make your moving list—which you should absolutely do—jolt down these things. You’ll want to do them for future-you.

Pack a Bag

While your things are packed and moving, you won’t have easy access to them. And chances are, you won’t be able to unpack everything immediately.

Give yourself some wiggle room. Have a bag packed with everything you might need for a couple of days. This way you can take your time unpacking the rest.

Chargers and Coolers

The most common things to forget about is your electronics and meals.

You will want to make sure your electronics are charged. You’ll want them ready to work when you do unpack them, and the ones you use daily to be available to you.

After ensuring your electronics have replenishable energy, you will want some too.

You can get a cooler or two to store perishable foods. And you can have one just for yourself on moving day. This way you’re guaranteed some meals and drinks.

Make Arrangements for Kids and Pets

Kids and pets can make any moving process a lot more difficult.

So, if you have kids or pets, you might want to make arrangements for them before the big day. Having a sitter there to watch or take them that day will be very helpful.

Separate Your Valuables and Essentials

It doesn’t matter how organized you are, some things will be misplaced or temporary lost.

You will want to make sure your valuable and essentials won’t be one of them. Things like important papers will need to be packed separately so you know where they are.

You might also want to unpack and secure those first.

Keep out Cleaning Supplies

If you keep your cleaning supplies out or packed by themselves, you will have easy access to them while you move.

This way you can do your apartment cleaning as you go, and it can save you a bigger mess later.

Keep Others Informed

The last thing you want to make sure you do is inform relative people about the move.

Of course, there’s the obvious such as your bank, etc. But some neighbors might worry if you disappear.

Your family and friends might become concerned, too, if they go to your old address to find an empty house. Keeping everyone informed will lessen worry and make the move easier on everyone.

Make Moving Day Easier on Yourself

It can be hard work to prepare for moving day, so don’t make it harder than it needs to be. Go start your plans now!
